Trying to get a better understanding of how EMS (mutagenizing seeds with ethyl methane sulfonate) is done and the positive or negatives associated with the practice.
I know that there is a tomato mutation repository and that they can be used in breeding work, but unsure of the process involved with treating seeds with EMS and then selecting from the mosaic M1 and M2 plants?

Right now just reading up on it but if i decide to do it thinking along the lines of a 0.5 -0.7 % EMS solution and soaking the seeds for 12-18hrs. I have an oz of Red Ponderosa seed, I could use some to start about 1000 seedlings using the dense planting method. Then would have to cull those #'s down by plant out phase.
Thats if I do it though, kinda got a lot of projects going on and I am an average Joe. Though I will probably end up doing it next year or the one after.
