I know most of you are all tomato growers, but if your interested, your welcome to join the 6 th annual Hog Wild Seed Swap or the piggy Swap for short.
It's a different kind of a seed swap. Last year we had about 60 people all oinking for seed at once, and a little over 12,000 packets of seed that traveled around too new homes.
It runs from Nov 3 to December 15, all seed to me by December 20th and everybody's boxes go out the beginning of the year.
Rules may look complicated, but it really easy. it's a 3 part swap.
Part one, no matter how many seeds you bring to the swap, you can ask for up to 100 packets of seed from other folks list. You have to have some seed s to play unless you are what we call a Survivor. That is a person who this past year lost their gardens due to floods, tornadoes, fires, hurricane s or other natural disasters. They need no seed to join. Part of this swap mission is to share and help those Survivor folks to rebuild their gardens.
Part 2, the one-for -one section. If you want to join in. This is seed packets you send in that are not marked for somebody who has requested them. All those packets go into what we call the trough. If you send in say 30 extra packets of seed not marked for anybody, you'll get 30 different packets of seed back. In this part seeds are matched to your wishlist and like s and what your gardens are like, but there no telling what you will get back. It all surprises.
Part 3 If after everybody has all their seed and there anything left at the bottom of the trough, usually repeat seed already passed out, then it is donated to organizations or charities that can use it.
Seed in the swap can be commercial, leftovers from trades, trades you got and didn't want or like, collected and harvested. Anything and everything can put in and found in the swap. Flowers, veggies, tropicals, trees , shrubs, heirlooms. Only thing not allowed is seed the gov says is illegal to grow.
You can find the rules out here: cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/37488/
signup here : cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/38605/ trying to get everybody in one place.
We do have a few international players and they know the risks.
If you don't want to join the swap, but would like to trade for something off my list, you can find my trade list here: cubits.org/ellasgarden/db/hogwildseedswap/view/16233/
Just send me a cmail with your requests. My list will grow all during the swap time. I have flowers, tropicals and veggies. In no particular order. I have started putting things up, and usually add to the list every few days as i go through my stashes. Last year I had about 1,500 kinds of seed on my have list and it takes me awhile to get them listed, so ya just have to check back often.
Things I looking for are mainly kinds of herbs and veggies, especially tomatoes and sweet peppers.
