And to go a bit farther, this past Spring I distributed seeds for PSR-37, which is the OP version that Tim Peters developed from the hybrid. And in doing that I did a lot of Googling and found, as noted above that it was bred in France. One of the most useful links was the article from Wikepedia which is easily accessed. I also like the one you posted b'c it's Howland himself going back to earlier times and his thoughts back then. Then there was a long thread at idig about PSR-37 and it was pointed out that quite a few folks were getting PL plants from some of the many versions of Early Girl F1 that are out there now, so it appears that one of the parents used in France was a PL variety. There was much detail andpictures shown in that idig thread. When I was in CA a few years back it was a variety that many grew and most of them dry farmed it, but I don't know of many on the East coast who grow it. I grew it once and didn't care for it at all, I mean the hybrid, one of the earlier versions, but perhaps in arid areas where it's dry farmed the taste is better. Carolyn
