I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite holidays - not because of all the food (although that's a plus ), but because it's remained a little more traditional than some other holidays. I wanted to send out my wishes now, as I'll be headed near Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas after work and on to Kansas City on Friday. Take care, God Bless, and may you all eat just enough.

Happy thanksgiving to all from here in NC!
As an aside, what would your thanksgiving plates look like if they only contained what you harvested from your gardening activities?
Mine would look like this:
Collard Greens, Sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, a little lettuce/spinach side salad, some pickle spears I canned earlier this summer, and a tomato! (The tomato was just picked from a plant in a pot that was babied through the cold to get the ripe fruit!)

As always I will eat MORE than "just enough" and Creme De Menthe will be in order.
Lee, Great menu from the harvest, I wrapped some green maters 2 weeks ago, unwrapped them this eve for tommorro, 3 of the 5 are edible, made Green mater relish, and Pickled green maters (hot) Can't wait till turkey day.

Have a great Thanksgiving! I don't know what the complete menu will be b'c a neighbor down the road apiece is bringing my holiday dinner to me. All I know is that there will be turkey and dessert is carrot cake. For many years I tried to replicate the Thanksgiving dinners we had at home when I was a kid, but it's far too much work, I think, for one person to do that. Sure, there are leftovers, which I love, but Sheesh. One year I bought a complete dinner for 6, that's all they were offering, and the leftovers crammed my freezer too full for too long. The downside to being offered a meal is that tomorrow there will be NO lefovers, I know that. And how I wish there were four legged turkeys b'c I know her husband and one of her sons will fight over who gets the legs, which are my favoite as well; I prefer dark meat. And if I were offered one of our local wild turkeys that would be the best ever. Such sweet succulent meat. Enjoy, and Peace to all. Carolyn

Hello all, my first post here. If had to rely on my garden this year, there wouldn't be any protein-the dry beans didn't get to ripe dry stage this year. But there would be swiss chard, acorn squash, yams, green beans and orange oxheart and old brooks tomatoes-some are still sitting ripe on dining room table-picked green right before the first HARD frost,
there'd be some green beans-dried and soaked-picked when I realized they weren't going to get to dry bean stage or even decent shellbean stage before frost this year.
there'd be some seasonings for the green beans-thyme.
there'd be some lavender buds and stevia (dried) for the squash (never tried it, just sounds interesting at the moment).
there'd be some yams too (I got 3 from my first ever plant). they'd get some seasonings from-orange mint and stevia and basil (dried) and pineapple sage (dried).
the herb combos would mainly be experiments since I grew the sage, stevia and orange mint for first time this year, and finally managed to get lavender buds harvested before bloom-good intentions in previous years, never succeeded til this year. I'll talk more on maters on a different day. good to be here, thanks to Darth for inviting me.

And from the deep south, the food will be great, and the games will echo in the background! Happy Thanksgiving my friends!
