Well I just talked to the agent in charge of my SSD case. He said they should have a decision next week and I should get the word in the mail that week or the week after for sure. This kind of goes with my prediction being it is so late in the year and month if they approve me that they do not want to deal with dispersing money until the new month/year which would make sense. In a long drawn out way. Another note to is all new payments must now be put on direct deposit or a debit card. The word is they want to help folks make sure they get their payments so they do not get stolen or lost which would also help cut expenditures in tracking payments down or making out new checks. All other folks who already get SS payments must make this change by May 2013.
Anyway hoping for the best but prepared for the worst and got my finger on the trigger in case I have to contact Senators and an Attorney.I won't play nice if they deny me again ;D

They denied me for SSD AND SSI. So I guess it is time contact a few folks and let them know what is going on. Also for folks out there that has gone through this do you think I should go through an outfit like Binder & Binder which is a national disability law firm or go with someone within the State of Michigan? Also going to contact both state senators and Congressman Shauer to let them know what is going on.This BS has gone far enough.

Yes, go with a lawyer. Binder and Binder will do. They all charge too much but take their cut out of the first check.

Done and Done Tom. Should hear back from them Friday unless they close for the Holiday. I had hoped it would not come to this but at least there is a last resort back up.

It's horrible how they treat people that have worked all their lives and paid into the system then get hurt on the job.
My uncle was a carpenter all his life. He had several bad on the job accidents. He managed to get thru 2 of them but the third did him in. He fell from a ladder and landed on his head. Brain Damage at age 60. He wasn't able to work after that but they denied SSD the first time. I don't know what he had to do to finally get his disability as it was more than 15 years ago.
But you need to persist. Good luck to you.

Hi Carol,
I hear about cases like your uncle all the time. One guy I heard of had real bad health issues fought for several years to get his.And when he did finally get it he passed away shortly after that.My Mom lucked out though many moons ago. We where still in Cali and she got hers within 90 days. Even though this is a Federal program each state evaluates folks different.Sad but true and it really is stupid when we all pay in to it but it is like pulling teeth to get what is due us when we need it.One reason why I am letting our Senators know one of their many constituents is not happy. And I did so politely so they don't blow me off right off the bat.
Folks are getting tired of the run around and it is high time we all let Washington and the States we live in know we are tired of it and are going to stand up for ourselves.

Kevin: a few things ... 1) You apparently suffer from the same or a similar heart disease as I do, because you say one or another doctor has prescribed the same medications for your low EF (ejection fraction), etc. Therefore, the first thing you need to do, in my opinion, is get those prescriptions filled and take the medication as prescribed. It will make you fell a whole lot better, I promise you. My EF went from a low of 20% to a high of 60% in the first 9 months after I began taking those meds (Coreg, Aldactone, and Altace). Currently, I am taking the generic form of all 3 of those meds, and each of them costs me only 9.99 for a 90-day supply at Nations pharmacy www.nationsmedicines.com/ I don't know if there's a Nations near you, but there are many options for the same type discount meds ... Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. all have some sort of discount club for generic medications. So, what I'm saying is you can probably obtain the necessary meds for 30 bucks every 90 days ... that's $120 per year ... and the other supplements you should be taking are equally cheap or economical, like Dollar General multivitamins, baby aspirin (81mg), fish oil, etc. You also can apply to Big Pharma companies like AstraZenica for assistance/sliding scale or free meds. So, do it. Stop putting it off. Do it. 2) I have a very close relative (35 y/o) who has suffered with a disability for the past 13 years. She cannot hold a job due to her condition. She tries over and over again, but generally cannot hold the job for longer than 6 months at the most. She has be diagnosed with a disease that prevents her maintaining full time employment, and her therapist has signed a statement saying she cannot be expected to hold even a parttime job under most conditions. She has been turned down for disability twice, and has her 3rd application currently pending a judge's ruling. But thing is, she has never ever stopped trying to work, or at least trying to occupy herself with something gainful at home between jobs. You have a computer. You have a good brain. You are literate. You can find something to do online to earn a bit of money enough to pay for your meds and some of your hobby time expenses. This person I'm referring to was told by her lawyer that if she made over $900 a month, that would disqualify her disability application. So, if you chose to make a little money online or in a part time capacity, check with your lawyer or counciler before you do. But just sayin' ... 3) Physical activity! It's essential. Consult your doctor first, but do something to strengthen your heart muscles and tone your other muscles so that you burn up some of that blood sugar. Do it. I'm serious. You will feel 500% better, I promise. Best wishes for a successful hearing next time. Don't give up. Don't give up on yourself either. Just get on with it. pv

Thanks for the advice Pap.Thing is the work at home stuff I have seen cost money to start up. I would love to be doing something really. As far as local stuff there aint anybody hirering in jobs that I can even attempt to do.And the other issue there is I live in rule Michigan away from everything. No transportation public or family related. As for going outside and walking about etc I can't because I don't have proper winter clothes. Ditto going to the free clinic to see doc there and get meds because you have to wait outside in line till 5 pm when they open. So getting the scrips reissued is a hard thing to do too.Right now I am just plain stuck between a rock and a hard place with very little options.

Update. Just got in touch with the DHS Rep at the hospital. She said I have been approved for the Adult Medical program. Here is the catch. There is a 3 dollar co-pay for doctors visits and 1 dollar co-pay for scrips. Working on resolving the doctor part for after the 18th but unsure about the scrip part. Two possible ways around this however. One as Pap mentioned is to apply for program through the makers of my meds. Two is to go through the free clinic. Now the Family Doctor I saw in 09 works with the Free Clinic got scrips for me during hours other than when they are open so I may go to him and see if he can do this for me which would be faster than going through the manufacturer. So these are my options with my medical end of it.
The State seemingly is waiting on SSA to send my medical info to them so they can see about getting me on State Disability and regular Medicaid. So hopefully that will go through too. Some good news for a change at least as far as My medical issues are concerned.Still crossing my fingers.

Hey Kev, gets the drugs man, it makes a huge difference in what you can stand and achieve. It is the first step, once you get your energy back, the rest is achievable.

Kevin, sorry man, but I don't even want to hear you say crap like that ... "but at least it's something" ... and "here's the catch ... $1 med script copay ... $3 doctor visit copay" ... get real, man! Do you realize how fortunate you are compared to some folks who are totally without medical assistance?!?

Dude I know what your saying but bare in mind I have 0 income right now. I am not trying to sound ungrateful but right now 1 or 3 dollars may as well be 100 or 300 dollars. Speaking from the other side of the fence since I have been without for far to long I know what it is like.Add to that not having the resources that a city of size would have makes it harder.

Sorry, not buying it. Known too many people on the down and outs who could muster enough gumption to handle the 20 or 30 bucks a month it's gonna take to hold down your end of the equation ... it's called "sliding scale" and I think you're getting the bargain basement rate ... which, by the way, I consider an essential part of the social bargain.
