Gosh, Rev, I guess some of us in the congregation just ain't seen the light. pv OK, that's it, I have to say that over the years I've found that many folks of the male gender have real problems distinguishing between the yellow/orange/gold color classes. So they must have a genetic mutation that alters their color perception. Ja, I'm serious here. The latest example, and bear with me on this, was indicated to me this past Tuesday when I was at my eye surgeon's office for a follow- up for the cataract surgery for the left eye done a week ago Monday. I'd been having problems with glucose control, I'm a diabetic, and asked him if any of the three kinds of eyedrops I have to use could be interferring, especially the antibiotic one, b'c I told him that that one turned my urine yellow. He sat back and said that urine IS yellow. Well yes, said I, but there are different shades of yellow ranging from pale yellow to a deeper yellow to gold to sometimes even a light orange. Bingo, he's go that mutation. ;D I think it's only poetic justice that an opthomologist should have a color perception problem. I casually mentioned that going to his office, which is about an hour distant from where I live, is the one time I can get some good junk food, like a Big Mac meal at McDonalds and that set him off as well, of course with a smile on his face, that junk food isn't good for you, etc. Soooooo, I see him next on Nov 9th for refraction of both eyes with the new lenses for glasses. At that time I will tell him that since he's so anti-junk food that I assume he and his family grow their own veggies, and then will tell him that as a thank you for giving me back my eyesight I'll send him seeds for one variety each of a clear yellow, a gold and an orange tomato variety. ;D Lordy, just look at the range of colors in that triad of colors that include the orange, gold and yellow varieties that have those colors at maturity ala tomatoes. Poor Dr. H to have that mutation as do quite a few of the male gender have. it must be sex linked to appear only in males, but then so is red/green color blindness. I wonder how he will accept having such a mutation. You know, I've never seen anyone refer to yellow/gold/orange colorblindness. Red/green and the other ones of course. Maybe I should write him up and submit the article to the Journal of whatever so that other eye docs and geneticists might follow through. And there I stand in Stockholm, accepting the money and the adulation, and it all started with tomatoes. Carolyn, who notes that he said that the one eyedrop I'm using contains prednisone and that it could interfere temporarily with glucose control. Upon further thought I think it's more related to my dark bittersweet chocolate and nut addictions which have been upped lately, starting Sept 20th when the right eye was done.

My optho told me several years ago that I was a bit color blind as well. Mine is sort of like I can't see if, say, there is green or blue writing on a red background. Like on the Mariseeds site she sometimes has blue/green writing on a red background and I have to ask someone to read it for me. He said it is quite common for men to have some color blindness.

I have perfect vision and there is no GOLD, unless it looks like a gold brick, yellow-orange. Or a trophy. YELLOW-ORANGE. The new, common sense tomato color code, has no "Gold". Light Yellow-light orange, Yellow-orange..NO GOLD.

Maybe color perception is just another "spontaneous mutation" that occurs regularly like leaf form changing from RL to PL AND THEN BACK AGAIN !!!

My husband is a house painter. So, he expresses colors, based on the names on the color chart that he uses from the paint store. Talk about some interesting discussions on colors, that is common around here. So, now when he gets a new color chart, I get one too!
But, I have noticed that he does not see the subtle differences in some of the colors that are very obvious to me.
I wonder, if house paint color charts is what got folks calling "goldenrod yellow" a gold?

If we can't call tomatoes golden anymore, what are we supposed to do with all varieties with "golden" or something similar in their names like Golden Queen, Goldene Konigin or Zloty Ozarowski?
You would list the correction in the description, Orange.

Darth doesn't drink much, so beergoggles aren't a major factor in his perception.

Thanks for clarifying Pepp, no I am not a drinker so that isnt a factor to want a system that describes color better than one that calls tomatoes purple when they are actually PINK. This should have been addressed long ago, but people dont like to change, even if the tires flat, some will attempt to make it to the gas station rather than fishing out the spare.

urine is Yellow not gold, My Club Cadet lawn tractor is Yellow and white not gold and white in color. As much as I paid for it granted it should be gold but it simply just is not the case. This is gold literally This is a yellow tomato called Golden Queen but it is Yellow

I actually saw a rack full of Cherokee Purple plants at a nursery this year with the photos on the labels enhanced to make them appear an ugly bruised purple color. Two ladies looking at them said, "That looks like an awful tasting tomato." I knew it was futile but regardless said, "they're actually very good. One of the best." They looked at me like I was high and walked away, hehe. Guess the grower must have felt the need to match the color to the description.
